what text documents should i have clients prepare in order to make them a valuable chatbot? or should i somehow get the data on my own?

The Knowledge Base is useful for answering all kinds of questions whose answer don't change much - company information, policies, FAQ etc.

But you can also use websites as knowledge sources instead of documents, so the bot will scrap the website everytime somebody talks to it to get up-to-date information!
