Disable free text

I would love to see the option to disable free text when the user is prompted with a choice. This would eliminate confusion for the user and preventing the conversation to go on an unwanted tangent. Thanks😙

If (when) this is implemented, may I also suggest that the options can be navigated with arrow keys (or tab) and selected with Enter. IOW when the multiple choice options are presented and the text input is disabled, the first (or designated default?) item is somehow highlighted, user can navigate options via keyboard, and Enter will be the same as clicking on the highlighted option.

@early-sunset-19067 you mean this?
Thats not possible yet
e
Yes it's that, guys, please, it would be much appreciated. Is any other way possible that somehow solve the problem?
q
yeah, if you have the knowledge base on, it sends the choice to the knowledge base, whereas what you'd want is, if they choose an option it just goes to the next node, but if they type free text, only then it answers from the kb.
c
something like "no keyboard entry" would be really really really good
l
Would love this. Would save a lot of workarounds!

Why don't you capture free text and extract the user's answer instead of a button? This gives you the opportunity to tweak your bot because your flow may not be according to users, and it might need changes. I use both techniques. In this example, I'm only missing an "always" to capture the free text and save it in the table for analysis. Next, I can implement additional intentions in this step or use a different approach. Some of the high-quality chatbots allow multiple actions, which creates a flexible bot that is more natural. This functionality is the best but requires more work when designing bot. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1129380093094006784/1226561441360904332/FreeTextIntentions.JPG?ex=6625375c&is=6612c25c&hm=7cc4c7cb01620d47c30c6ae87939a8f2825aa1019fb46f7f76a69fa2bc74eab0&

This would be a nice feature, but possible to be implemented in the Webchat only, since WhatsApp and other channels don’t provide an option to disable the text input
g
But buttons make the process easier to follow and guides the user
s
I understand you, but it looks artificial. You can't predict user behavior unless you drive it, which is not natural for support. Support should ask, wait, and react to the user, not tell him what to do. This can help discover the real intent behind his visit.
g
I agree that it does reveal that it is a chatbot and not a human support
e
I think the best UX is showing the buttons but also allowing free text for the cases where what the user wants doesn't match the options, so you would use Intent cards or an AI Transition card to handle these.
But I can see the use for an option to disable the text input for when the bot can't/shouldn't handle anything besides the given options
s
I totally agree; the three options are very useful. What I would also like to have is a static button, like contact or something like that. I saw it in one of the chats, and it's a very clever use case. This button is static and follows a conversation (sticky button). It could increase conversion from the chat.
But can't we use the repeat function with a message to let the user know that he must use buttons, something like: Please use the buttons to help me navigate the conversation. Thanks!
b
So this has not been implemented yet? So many request for this... I would need it as well
j
We need this option
