This is a very long question to answer, and you might get a different answer if you ask someone else on the team. On my side, Cloud and V12 are built differently. The complexity of the infrastructure side of the cloud would make it almost impossible for a single tenant to use it. V12 was built so it could make sense for 1 person to host it by himself without too much complexity and cost implications cloud was built so users could have a fantastic building experience.
p
I can understand that but from my point of view the v12 has nothing to do with Cloud. The cloud has a much better operation in the studio. Why was this not integrated into the v12?
r
The studio itself uses GPT, something we can't do with V12 since it's self-hosted. Also, a bot in v12 does not have the same structure in the cloud. pushing the cloud studio on 12 would basically force a rebuild of 12. I can understand that from a user perspective it does not make any sense because I've been there too but even if it looks like they are very similar products if you look under the hood they are very far from each other.
p
i can imagine that very well. but it seems that the v12 will die and all users are forced to use the cloud ...
r
We still have a dedicated team on V12 12.30.10 is about to be released. We are a small team, and most of our users want what the cloud offers and not V12. So yes at the moment our main focus is on cloud.
p
the reason why i am interested in the selfhosted variant is that big customers of ours would like to have their data on prem. but the feature set as well as the handling of v12 is simply disastrous and i am forced to recommend another product to our customers. why can't gpt just be hidden in the selfhosted variant?
r
I'm sorry I don't have an answer to this question, but knowing the infrastructure behind the cloud, I can assure you that it would be close to impossible for it to make sense for a single client.
p
is the cloud studio itself open source? https://github.com/botpress/studio
r
No this is the V12 studio
p
so botpress is not opensource anymore, right?
r
Making the cloud studio frontend opensource is something we are looking into but it's too early
For now, we want people to have every tool they need to make integrations, so we are working on making opensource all the tools your need to build on Botpress and also all the integrations.
But it's a lot of work again we are a small team and we are doing our best
p
i find the product extremely good, as already said, it would also be good to have an on-prem variant. if you don't mind me asking, do you have a diagram that shows the cloud infrastructure? (i would be interested in the background)
r
Thanks, we really are doing our best to deliver fantastic products but also be part of the community. Not always easy 😛 Sorry for security reason I cannot share the cloud infra I really wish I could
p
i can imagine that. i have already developed some features for cal.com 🙂 i would like to support you too, but is not possible because of the closed source.
r
I understand as the product grows, we might have something that will work for you in the future. Cloud is not even 1 year old. It will continue to grow to ensure we can please as many people as possible 🙂
p
in which country is the cloud hosted?
c
USA.
p
unfortunately i can't use the botpress with this... for data protection reasons, the app must be hosted either in germany or at least in the EU. 😦
r
We are aware of GDPR and it's being looked at 🙂
p
that's great 🙂
i have filled the Botpress Enterprise form
